What is a public convoy?
A public convoy is a group drive that anyone can discover in TorqueTrail, rather than one that's invite-only among people who already know each other. Public convoys are meant to help you find and join a drive with people outside your existing contacts.
Do I need to complete KYC just to browse public convoys?
No. Anyone can discover and view public convoy details. KYC verification is only required at the point of joining — organizing or participating in the drive.
What is DigiLocker and why does TorqueTrail use it?
DigiLocker is the Indian government's digital identity and document verification platform. TorqueTrail uses it to confirm a real, verified identity behind every member of a public convoy, instead of relying on just an email or phone signup.
Is my identity information safe during verification?
Verification runs through DigiLocker's own government-backed flow, and we never store your raw Aadhaar number — only a one-way cryptographic hash, the last 4 digits, your verified name, and a verification photo encrypted at rest. We don't retrieve or store your driving license even if DigiLocker's consent screen offers to share it. This data is used only to show your verified badge and unlock public convoy joining, and it's permanently deleted if you delete your account. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Why is this feature India-only right now?
DigiLocker is India's national identity verification system, so it's the natural first market for this feature. Other regions are coming soon as we add an equivalent verification standard for each one — we'd rather launch a region correctly than launch it everywhere with weaker verification.
Do private convoys need KYC too?
No. Private convoys are invite-only among people who already know each other, so there's no identity gate. The KYC requirement applies specifically to public convoys, where a stranger could otherwise join without ever being verified.
What happens if I try to join a public convoy without completing KYC?
You'll be prompted to complete identity verification before your join request goes through — for both the discovery feed's join button and a shared convoy invite link. Once verified, you won't need to repeat the process for future convoys.
